→ GYM BATTLES

There are 8 gyms scattered around Cassava, one for each of the eight major towns outside of the central island. Each gym is headed by a gym leader who will test a trainer's strength against a Pokemon team of a type specific to their gym. Upon defeating the gym leader, trainers receive a gym badge symbolizing their victory and proving their strength and capabilities for training Pokemon. The more badges a trainer has, the more willing Pokemon are to listen to their commands, and upon collecting a full set of eight badges, that trainer is eligible to compete in the Pokemon League.

NOTE: The level of a gym leader's Pokemon is dependent on the challenging trainer's. For example, if your team's level is from 18 to 20, the leader's team will be from levels 20 to 23. This is also the same for any Pokemon or trainers who are stationed inside the gym. This allows for characters to challenge the gyms in any order that they want.

At the Pokemon League, eligible trainers from all over the region battle one another, and the winner proceeds to challenge the Elite Four, the strongest four trainers of the region, as well as the current Pokemon Champion. Upon victory against the Champion, the trainer claims the title as the region's Pokemon Champion.

MARY MANGO - STEEL-TYPE GYM LEADER "O-Oh, h... hello... I'm... Mary. I'm the Steel-type Gym Leader... Um, l-let's battle!" Despite being a Steel-type, The Mango City Gym is filled with trees. The dense indoor forest makes it difficult for the directionally challenged to properly navigate to the door that guides to the leader. Luckily, the room is devoid of trainers trying to battle any newcomers. In their place, however, are an abundance of Magnemites and Skarmory; the former acting as tripping hazards while the latter nips at heads. They must be defeated in order to proceed. When you finally reach the gym leader's main room, Mary, a small girl with overflowing hair, looks almost scared at the new arrival. She was in the middle of drinking a nice cup of tea; she nearly spills it all over the grassy and flower-covered ground, but she composes herself just enough to greet the challenger. Although timid, her Pokemon are not: Steelix Steelix Steelix Steelix Steelix Steelix Upon her defeat, she congratulates the trainer and meekly hands over a badge. She explains that Pokemon up to a certain level will listen if they see how many badges or ribbons a trainer has. She then gives TR46 (Iron Defense) before she rushes people out, being more than eager to go back to being by herself. Goodbye!
KONOHA MELONA - PSYCHIC-TYPE GYM LEADER "Huh...? Oh. Hi." Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Melona City Gym is dusty and void of... well, anything. It's not uncommon for its leader to wander off and only appear when someone drags him back. As a result, it's far too much of an effort to get any type of furnishing and it's probably illegal to lock the gym trainers inside for days at a time so this is nothing but a sad and empty building. Even the lights licker, but that's just because no one has changed them for some time - not because of some ~atmosphere~ or whatnot. Wandering to the very back of the gym for the leader's main room, Konoha is just getting up from a nap, yawning loudly. He appears to still be half-asleep when he asks who you are and what's happening. A gym battle? What? Oh. Okay, sure. Then, without much fanfare, he goes through his team: Hypno Musharna Slowbro Gallade Medicham Metagross Upon his defeat, he congratulates the trainer and hands over a badge, though it takes him a minute to remember where he put it (under the mattress). He will briefly explain how the number of badges or ribbons a trainer can have could control Pokemon up to a certain level. Then, after another minute to search around, he gives TR49 (Calm Mind) and silently stands there until you eventually leave. Bye.
TSUBOMI HAMI - FIRE/FIGHTING-TYPE GYM LEADER "Ha. Do you think you can defeat me?" Having lost the Hami Gym in the volcano, challenges are instead conducted wherever the leader is found, although there is rumor that if you interrupt her in the middle of preparing a meal or trying to relax in the hot springs, she will break your spine. It might be better that the challenges are done outside, seeing as both the gym leader and her Pokemon have trouble holding back and tend to go all out against both their opponent and the terrain they battle on. Flareon ♂ Mienshao ♀ Breloom ♂ Ninetales ♂ Blaziken ♂ Arcanine ♀ Upon her defeat, she congratulates the trainer and hands over the badge and TR41 (Blaze Kick) after giving a brief explanation of how the number of badges or ribbons a trainer has can control Pokemon up to a certain level. She looks really mad. Better leave...

Similar to gyms, there are also 8 contest halls in Cassava, one for each of the major towns outside of the central island. At each contest hall, trainers— also called coordinators, trainers who focus on raising Pokemon for contests instead of gym battles— show off their Pokemon in a two part performance in front of a panel of judges. Contests fall into one of five categories (cool, beauty, cute, clever, tough) upon which the Pokemon are judged, and come in four levels (normal, super, hyper, master) upon which Pokemon may earn ribbons of a higher level once winning the previous level contest in the same category.

In the first part of the performance, Pokemon show off their condition, which relates to their health and physical appearance. Pokemon may be fed on a special diet and/or may be dressed up with accessories to improve their condition. In the second part, Pokemon battle one another to show off their move appeal, which relates to the strength and creativity of their moveset. Certain combinations of moves score greater points with the judges, while other moves may lose points.

Only one Pokemon at a time may be entered into a contest, but there are no limits to how many Pokemon may earn ribbons. The more unique ribbons (eg. two Pokemon earning a normal rank cute ribbon only counts as one) a trainer has, the more willing Pokemon are to listen to their commands, and upon collecting 8 unique ribbons, that trainer is eligible to compete in the Ribbon Cup. At the Ribbon Cup, eligible trainers from all over the region compete against one another, and the winner claims the title as the region's Top Coordinator. Contest details: Marshtomp will be wearing a bandanna on its forehead to signify its toughness! To show off its moveset, it uses Rock Slide for raining rocks (safe from the spectators) and uses Rock Smash to chop every single one with controlled efficiency! Wow!

Contest details: Vivillon will try to captivate the audience upon entry with something that looks like a small amount of glistening sparkles (it's glitter) on its wings. For moveset, it uses a combination of Powder and Gust for it to spread in a small wind funnel. When the wind dies, the powder falls into place that makes a :) face on the ground.

We can def say that the contest hall reopened for the sake of bringing everybody's spirits back up, they definitely need it. The smiley face absolutely get the audience.

Congratulations on winning the normal rank tough and normal rank clever contests! Along with a little yellow and green ribbon for each of Efi's Pokemon respectively, both of them get their portraits painted and hug up inside the contest gallery hall of fame, right next to Mari's toughest and cleverest Steelixes. This position is of the highest honor. In addition, Efi receives two star pieces as a reward, which can be sold in any shop for a high price, but she might also get the sense that it's worth holding onto for the time being.
