→ GYM BATTLES
There are 8 gyms scattered around Cassava, one for each of the eight major towns outside of the central island. Each gym is headed by a gym leader who will test a trainer's strength against a Pokemon team of a type specific to their gym. Upon defeating the gym leader, trainers receive a gym badge symbolizing their victory and proving their strength and capabilities for training Pokemon. The more badges a trainer has, the more willing Pokemon are to listen to their commands, and upon collecting a full set of eight badges, that trainer is eligible to compete in the Pokemon League.
NOTE: The level of a gym leader's Pokemon is dependent on the challenging trainer's. For example, if your team's level is from 18 to 20, the leader's team will be from levels 20 to 23. This is also the same for any Pokemon or trainers who are stationed inside the gym. This allows for characters to challenge the gyms in any order that they want.
At the Pokemon League, eligible trainers from all over the region battle one another, and the winner proceeds to challenge the Elite Four, the strongest four trainers of the region, as well as the current Pokemon Champion. Upon victory against the Champion, the trainer claims the title as the region's Pokemon Champion.
Battles may either be played out or handwaved. Please submit victories to the form below for mod review.

→ CONTESTS
Similar to gyms, there are also 8 contest halls in Cassava, one for each of the major towns outside of the central island. At each contest hall, trainers— also called coordinators, trainers who focus on raising Pokemon for contests instead of gym battles— show off their Pokemon in a two part performance in front of a panel of judges. Contests fall into one of five categories (cool, beauty, cute, clever, tough) upon which the Pokemon are judged, and come in four levels (normal, super, hyper, master) upon which Pokemon may earn ribbons of a higher level once winning the previous level contest in the same category.
- In the first part of the performance, Pokemon show off their condition, which relates to their health and physical appearance. Pokemon may be fed on a special diet and/or may be dressed up with accessories to improve their condition.
In the second part, Pokemon battle one another to show off their move appeal, which relates to the strength and creativity of their moveset. Certain combinations of moves score greater points with the judges, while other moves may lose points.

Character: Sagi
Info page: here
Gym: Mango City
Pokemon team: Marshtomp (23), Houndour (19), Basculin (10), Pawniard (16), Sigilyph (10)
Battle details: He barely fucking knows what he's doing and his Houndour doesn't like him. It's an earnest attempt, though! Thanks to Nanami's advice, he orders Marshtomp to focus on ground attacks, Houndour on fire and Basculin on water, while occasionally tossing out Sitrus berries for healing due to JRPG instincts... but if he gets down to his last two, he'll just stick with full-on offense despite the type disadvantages.

Character: Efina

Gym: Mango City
Pokemon team: Deino (15), Wailmer (21), Vivillon (16), Marshtomp (31)
Battle details: Efi learned as much as she could from other trainers, which is trying to use type advantages to the best of her abilities. She tries to use her Vivillon's Sleep Powder in order to get past them without making them faint. If that doesn't work... time to battle. Sorry about that. :( For the gym leader, her Marshtomp will do his best to toss lots of ground and water type moves and taking advantage of the terrain if he can. If Marshtomp goes down, Deino will try to use Dragon Breath on it constantly, Wailmer will shoot Water Pulse, and Vivillon will inflict with status effects when it can.

Character: Hien Callias
Info page: link
Gym: Mango City
Pokemon team: Flareon (15), Spheal (13), Hatenna (19), Eevee (16), Absol (29), Litwick (19)
Battle details: Flareon does its best burning the early Steelixes. When it looks like it'll go down, it'll sand-attack the heck out of that Steelix before fainting. If a Steelix uses a status move, Spheal will use Encore and try to whittle it down with water gun while it's caught in the loop... the Litwick will be intensely annoying with Confuse Rays, Minimize, and Ember. Absol will use Perish Song if it's about to die along with Double Team to stall for time, Future Sights... Hien basically makes this gym fight a battle of attrition. The other pokemon not mentioned are mostly there just in case things go south.

Character: Fai
Info page: here
Gym: Mango City
Pokemon team: Marshtomp (25), Snorunt (25), Swablu (19), Skitty (9)
Battle details: Fai will be trying different type moves until he sees what's really effective! Once he figures that out, he will keep out his Marshtomp to use as many ground moves as possible and healing her when he can. If she faints, he will switch to Snorunt and Swablu and use moves like Astonish for the chance to make Mari's pokemon flinch interspersed with any stat boosting or stat lowering moves he can use. It's probably really annoying, sorry.

Character: Akira Kurusu
Info page: bongobongo
Gym: Mango City, a few ays after everyone's wound down and recovered from the event
Pokemon team: Sandile Lv20, Slowpoke Lv23, Morpeko Lv15, Drifloon Lv9
Battle details: This is absolutely a JRPG boss battle and Akira's going to treat it like one.
From the reading and training Akira's done, he thinks that Sandile and Slowpoke are going to be the key players here. They both have moves strong against the Steelix, plus assorted cool and fun debuff moves. Sandile is mostly focused on Hone Claws > Sand Tomb and Sand Attack, whereas Slowpoke will make excessive use of Yawn and Disable to shut the Steelix down while Water Pulsing them. Everyone's holding Berries and Akira has a truly absurd amount of them. Morpeko/Drifloon will be using their debuffs at strategic points during the fight, and probably both end up taking one for the team to save Sandile and Slowpoke's asses.

Character: Itaru Chigasaki
Info page: boop
Gym: Mango City
Pokemon team: Dartrix (lvl20), Marshtomp (lvl20), Scraggy (lvl22)
Battle details: Scraggy and Marshtomp are going to be MVPs this round. Being a seasoned Trainer in the mainline videogames will give him a bit more advantage, even if his Scraggy wouldn't follow his instructions most of the time. But he does keep Headbutting into the Steelix so maybe that would work?? Otherwise when it feels like following Itaru's commands, it'll use Low Kick pretty often, and would even use Protect or Sand Attack in a pinch before it hits back (usually with another Headbutt because he's stupid). It can even use Facade if the Steelix end up using a status move.
Of course, Marshtomp is there as backup in case Scraggy goes down later on in the battle. It also knows Protect to buy itself some time, and can even use Supersonic to confuse the Steelix. Lastly as a Ground-type, it can dish out the powerful Earthquake as a very last resort. Itaru has also stocked up on enough potions to keep their HP up, so he is def not leaving here until he gets that Badge.

Character: Sooyoung Han
Info page: link
Gym: Mango City
Pokemon team: Ditto (10), Cramorant (22), Gastly (16), Marshtomp (25), Wobbuffet (22), Alakazam (20)
Battle details: Sooyoung will brute force her way through most of the battle with Marshtomp's water type moves and Supersonic--occasionally using Protect when it feels like a Steelix will be using a very strong move. After Marshtomp faints (if it does), she sents out a Wobbuffet that gets annoying to deal with by using Charm, Counter, and Destiny bond when Wobbuffet's about to die. Its Shadow Tag ability prevents Mari from switching out, so that works well with Sooyoung occasionally healing her pokemon with items she bought from the Mart. The rest are there to finish off whatever Mari has left, because Sooyoung is rather confident that those two pokemon carry the team hard enough.

Character: Yoo Joonghyuk
Info page: oh boy
Gym: Mango City
Pokemon team: Eevee (40, this is his princess), Wishiwashi (28), Slow...poke (20), Houndoom (26)
Battle details: Joonghyuk is the type to research and learn, so he will be well prepared to challenge the gym leader! Joonghyuk will be using a mix of smog from Houndoom, yawn + disable from slowpoke, then a couple of status detriments like tearful eye, sand attack, etc when he sees fit. if needed, he will use... Curse from Slowpoke if slowpoke is about to go down, but as a last resort. also, if he anticipates Wishiwashi going down, he will make it use soak so that his other Pokemon should have an easier time with that single Pokemon. Houndoom will be coming out later in the lineup.

Character: Chiaki Nanami
Info page: Here
Gym: Mango City
Pokemon team: Mimikyu (lv25), Marshtomp (lv27), Solosis (lv20)
Battle details: This is, like, a month late, but Nanami abuses the heck out of Marshtomps's type advantage. She has an entire backpack full of potions and revives, if things come to it, but she should defeat all of Mari's Pokemon with ease. SHSL Gamer wins :)

Character: Sagi

Gym: Melona
Pokemon team: Pawniard, Houndoom, Snom, Meowth, Sigilyph, Swampert
Battle details: Slightly less clueless this time thanks to the classes at the trainers' school, he expects psychic-types going in, so he's bringing a dark and bug-type offensive. As well as freely using items, he switches out when it seems like his Pokemon's additional types are putting them at too much of a disadvantage. Sigilyph and Swampert are there as backup, buying time to heal up with judicious Hypnosis usage and soaking hits respectively.

Character: Yoichi Isagi
Info page: here
Gym: Melona
Pokemon team: Corphish (25), Carkol (25), Spinda (30), Mudbray (24)
Battle details: Yoichi has had... a month, and also doesn't know what the fuck he's doing, only that the Pokemon are getting to the point that they won't listen. He's letting Hana-chan take the reins as the highest level Pokemon, and will observe what happens for notes on what to do, and not do, for future battles. There is no strategy, only a heartbroken Spinda full of tear-filled rage. Ganba, team Hana-chan.

Character: Hien Callias
Info page: link
Gym: Melona, prior to volcano exploding
Pokemon team: Flareon (30), Hattrem (34), Lampent (44), Absol (34), Trapinch (32), Shedinja (25)
Battle details: All of the pokemon Hien brought has at least one move that's super effective against psychic types, though he'll also try to take advantage of subtyping like Flareon vs Metagross and such. If it looks like he's in trouble, he'll use items or switch out to Hattrem for heal stalling to tire out the opponent's pokemon. Shedinja will do its best with Wonder Guard even though it's the lowest level in the team. Absol will make use of Super Luck ability with its dark typing in order to fight through Konoha's pokemon too. She's probably the most annoying one with Swords Dance, Double Team, and Detect.

Character: Joscelaint
Info page: Link
Gym: Melona, before the volcano explodes
Pokemon team: Lycanroc (25), Swablu (25), Drampa (32). Honedge won't be fighting at all because he is a BABY who is just here to see the world, and if anything happened to him I would kill everyone in this game and then myself.
Battle details: Joss took this strange, overly serious dog under his wing and the dog nearly immediately repaid his kindness by dragging him to the gym and going up to the gym leader for a fight. It'd be rude to leave after they so clearly woke Konoha up from his nap so he just goes along with it. :'(
Joss is far from an expert battler, but he did learn some important things in Melona's school like Pokémon types and whatnot. Hachiko does most of the battling because that's why he's here (real sucker punch and bite hours baby!) but Joss keeps an eye out for any obvious typing mismatches between him and the leader's Pokémon, so unless doggo OHKOs them he ends up swapping him for Drampa against Slowbro, and Swablu against Gallade and Medicham. They might be able to get a few hits in first though because Joss can't necessarily tell what non-psychic types Konoha's Pokémon have at first glance.
Also, Metagross is probably going to be a horrible slog if Lycanroc gets KOed too quickly...

Gym: Hami, before the volcano explodes again
Pokemon team: Swampert, Sigilyph, Houndoom, Snom, Pawniard, Galarian Meowth
Battle details: He ran into her doing the rounds of some campsites and decided what the heck. He'll lean heavily on Swampert and Sigilyph this time because the rest of his team is at a glaring type disadvantage, oops. Instead of full offense like the last two, he gets his Swampert to whittle the opposing team down, then has Sigilyph try to gain an opening and set up for a sweep with Hypnosis, Calm Mind, Air Slash and Psybeam. If those two fall, he'll stall with his other Pokemon to revive and heal them, though he didn't bring enough items to win a prolonged battle of attrition.

Gym: Hami, prior to volcano exploding
Pokemon team: Flareon (30), Staryu (33), Lampent (44), Hattrem (34), Lunatone (22), Trapinch (32)
Battle details: For pokemon who seem to be focused on offensive fire moves, he'll use Flareon with Flash Fire in hopes to mitigate that and force Tsubomi to use other moves while Mimi can try whittling it down. Lampent inflicts status moves with Hex, trying to use Inferno on pokemon who aren't fire type. Staryu is there to counter either type by using water or psychic moves, hoping the Breloom went down with Flareon. The rest are there as backup. He doesn't really use items this time.

Character: Efina
Info page: link
Gym: Melona, backdated before leaving
Pokemon team: Pumpkaboo (25), Deino (25), Vivillon (31) Swampert (36), Quilava (20)
Battle details: All Efi knows is that bug, ghost and dark moves work on beating psychic types, so she'll attempt to capitalize on that. If it doesn't end up working, she'll bring up Swampert in an attempt to brute force rest of the battle.
Gym: Hami, prior to volcano exploding
Pokemon team: Wailmer (26), Swampert (36), Vivillon (31), Quilava (20), Deino (25)
Battle details: Water prevails! Maybe. Wailmer and Swampert will be doing their best to carry the entire fight. She does give them breaks by switching them out with an interesting strategy, such as using Vivillon to inflict statuses, especially Powder onto fire pokemon, essentially holding all their fire moves hostage, lest the Powder explode in their face. She has a lot of burn heals to go around, so she'll use those liberally if she needs to.

Gym: hami (before the explosion)
Pokemon team: dartrix, marshtomp, scraggy, aron, espurr

Contest hall: Mango City
Contest category: Clever
Contest rank: Normal
Pokemon: Ditto
Contest details: Ditto will look as spiffy a formless blob can be with a pair of fake glasses over its face when it makes its entrance. It uses Transform to change into a different looking person each and every time with a hat over its head to obscure the face (because Ditto can't perfect that) while dancing, so it'll resemble something like this. Even though Sooyoung's avatar does join in on the dance because it needs a partner, the main spotlight is on Ditto with the constant pretty appearance changing to keep the audience watching. Please have this backdated pre-apocalypse.
