→ GYM BATTLES
There are 8 gyms scattered around Cassava, one for each of the eight major towns outside of the central island. Each gym is headed by a gym leader who will test a trainer's strength against a Pokemon team of a type specific to their gym. Upon defeating the gym leader, trainers receive a gym badge symbolizing their victory and proving their strength and capabilities for training Pokemon. The more badges a trainer has, the more willing Pokemon are to listen to their commands, and upon collecting a full set of eight badges, that trainer is eligible to compete in the Pokemon League.
NOTE: The level of a gym leader's Pokemon is dependent on the challenging trainer's. For example, if your team's level is from 18 to 20, the leader's team will be from levels 20 to 23. This is also the same for any Pokemon or trainers who are stationed inside the gym. This allows for characters to challenge the gyms in any order that they want.
At the Pokemon League, eligible trainers from all over the region battle one another, and the winner proceeds to challenge the Elite Four, the strongest four trainers of the region, as well as the current Pokemon Champion. Upon victory against the Champion, the trainer claims the title as the region's Pokemon Champion.
Battles may either be played out or handwaved. Please submit victories to the form below for mod review.

→ CONTESTS
Similar to gyms, there are also 8 contest halls in Cassava, one for each of the major towns outside of the central island. At each contest hall, trainers— also called coordinators, trainers who focus on raising Pokemon for contests instead of gym battles— show off their Pokemon in a two part performance in front of a panel of judges. Contests fall into one of five categories (cool, beauty, cute, clever, tough) upon which the Pokemon are judged, and come in four levels (normal, super, hyper, master) upon which Pokemon may earn ribbons of a higher level once winning the previous level contest in the same category.
- In the first part of the performance, Pokemon show off their condition, which relates to their health and physical appearance. Pokemon may be fed on a special diet and/or may be dressed up with accessories to improve their condition.
In the second part, Pokemon battle one another to show off their move appeal, which relates to the strength and creativity of their moveset. Certain combinations of moves score greater points with the judges, while other moves may lose points.

Character: Itaru Chigasaki
Info page: boop
Gym: Mango City
Pokemon team: Dartrix (lvl20), Marshtomp (lvl20), Scraggy (lvl22)
Battle details: Scraggy and Marshtomp are going to be MVPs this round. Being a seasoned Trainer in the mainline videogames will give him a bit more advantage, even if his Scraggy wouldn't follow his instructions most of the time. But he does keep Headbutting into the Steelix so maybe that would work?? Otherwise when it feels like following Itaru's commands, it'll use Low Kick pretty often, and would even use Protect or Sand Attack in a pinch before it hits back (usually with another Headbutt because he's stupid). It can even use Facade if the Steelix end up using a status move.
Of course, Marshtomp is there as backup in case Scraggy goes down later on in the battle. It also knows Protect to buy itself some time, and can even use Supersonic to confuse the Steelix. Lastly as a Ground-type, it can dish out the powerful Earthquake as a very last resort. Itaru has also stocked up on enough potions to keep their HP up, so he is def not leaving here until he gets that Badge.

Itaru's experience in virtual Pokemon battles really pulls through for him here, especially with type advantages and the calculated risk of using an overleveled Pokemon. While Scraggy doesn't obey commands 100% of the time, it makes up for it in several critical hits, turning the tide at key moments. When Marshtomp is switched in, its Earthquake overwhelms Mari's Steelixes, and wins Itaru the battle.
Mari makes zero eye contact at all when handing over the gym badge and TR for Iron Tail. If he looks closely, though, he might see that she is maybe... blushing... just a little. The moment he gets his badge and TR, she turns around and flees.
